17 days of Lichtfestival

During the Luminate Lichtfestival, Astro Rent provided the complete temporary network solution needed to keep the entrance, light wristbands, and food trucks running smoothly. What appears to be a seamless experience for visitors requires a reliable and fault-free infrastructure behind the scenes — and that is exactly what we built.

Network for entrance & light wristbands

At the entrance, everything revolved around speed and reliability. Ticket control, scanning of light wristbands, and access management could not falter for a single second. Astro Rent set up a temporary network with professional access points and a stable local infrastructure that could withstand both cold outdoor conditions and peak loads when large numbers of people arrived simultaneously.

Thanks to this setup, all systems could communicate in real time, which minimised waiting times and significantly improved visitor flow.

Connectivity for food trucks

Food trucks are always a challenge due to their position and variable setups. Yet they need to be able to rely on stable connectivity for payments, point-of-sale systems, and communication with the organisation. We provided a dedicated network segment for the entire food truck area, so that all transactions could proceed without issues even during the busiest moments.

Thanks to our standard battery backup, the network stayed online multiple times when power to the food trucks went out. This ensures there are no waiting times when power is restored, because the network does not need to restart.

Starlink + 5G via WAN bonding

The backbone of the entire setup was an internet line built via WAN bonding of Starlink with a 5G connection.

This combination gave the festival two major advantages:

• Redundancy: if one connection drops (for example due to cloud cover or peak load on the mobile network), the other takes over immediately.
• High throughput speeds: ideal for simultaneous ticketing, payments, lighting control, and organisational communication.

The bonded connection was managed via professional hardware, giving the organisation a single stable, aggregated internet line at all times.

Thanks to this setup, the Luminate Lichtfestival could count on:

• Smooth visitor flow
• Reliable cashless payments
• A stable connection for all operational zones
• No outages or network issues despite winter temperatures and large crowds
